Accelerated boosters for education and child care staff

Vaccination clinics for education and child care staff

A dedicated COVID-19 booster clinic has been set up by the provincial government to provide accelerated access to third doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to staff in child care centres and schools.

The clinic, which opens on January 7th at the International Centre on Airport Road in Mississauga, supports priority booking for education staff, including educators, custodial staff, administrative staff, and school bus drivers. The clinic operates seven days a week, with specific appointments for education and child care staff from 4:30 to 8pm. Eligible staff are encouraged to book their appointment through the Provincial Vaccine Booking Line at 1-833-943-3900.

To further support enhanced access to vaccines for education and child care staff, the Ministry of Health has also announced additional vaccine clinics in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA). Beginning January 8th, education and child care staff will be able to book appointments at 10 health clinic locations across the GTHA. The clinics will be open seven days a week with dedicated time slots for education and child care staff between 4 pm and 10pm, Monday to Friday, and on weekends throughout the day. Appointments can be scheduled through the dedicated FH Health booking website.

The dedicated vaccination clinics are open to all HWCDSB staff including teachers, educational assistants, early childhood educators, clerical, custodial, principals/vice-principals and support staff. Staff are encouraged to get their third dose/booster as soon as possible as an added layer of protection from the rapidly spreading Omicron variant.

Hamilton Public Health Services has also expanded COVID-19 third dose availability for eligible community members 18 years of age and older. Over 21,000 appointments will be available in Hamilton’s booking tool on a rolling schedule, beginning January 9, 2022.

The expansion of local COVID-19 vaccine capacity has been coordinated by Hamilton healthcare partners and community organizations to ensure as many Hamiltonians as possible, as quickly as possible, are protected against COVID-19 and the highly-transmissible Omicron variant as cases continue to rise and increased strain is placed on our healthcare system. We must all work together to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our community. Vaccination continues to be our best defence.
